World Cup Soccer Champs and Learning Leadership Skills
Most of us won’t get to wear cleats and kick balls into a net when we find a new mountain to conquer in our own careers. However, if you’re wondering whether you have what it takes to lead and inspire others in our national airspace system, we have some current opportunities that will help our high potential colleagues explore that in the ATO.
Application periods are now open in these programs:
During both six-month programs, selected participants will attend a week-long workshop led by experienced ATO managers that includes discussion of key leadership concepts and practice with scenarios likely to be encountered in supervisory positions. Participants create an individual development plan with development activities they’ll complete back in the field. They’ll also participate in day-in-the-life simulations that will teach leadership skills that can be used regardless of whether the participants choose to pursue a management track.
I’m asking for all of you to help us get the word out that these programs are accepting applications, especially by letting one of our technicians or controllers know about these opportunities by preparing them to become first-time managers. The programs are competitive, but everyone will get feedback about their applications even if they don’t get selected this time around.
This is a great chance to take that next step and make a difference not only in your own career, but by motivating others, too. You can find more information about ATLDP and TOLDP online at myATOcareer.faa.gov.
I hope you’ll take a shot. You might just leave a contrail!
